Castle Pines North Metropolitan District Lifts Boil Water Advisory

Castle Pines, CO – May 16, 2024 – The Castle Pines North Metropolitan District (CPNMD) is pleased to announce that the Boil Water Advisory issued on May 15, 2024, has been officially lifted. After comprehensive testing and thorough inspection of our water system, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has confirmed that our water is safe for consumption and all other uses.

The advisory was enacted following the detection of a potential contamination risk due to a main water line break. Since then, our dedicated team has worked around the clock to resolve the issue, repair the line, and ensure that all water quality standards are met.

Next Steps For Residents District

  •  Run all cold water faucet taps for at least 5 minutes.
    • Begin with the lowest faucet in your home and open faucets one at a time, moving from the lowest floor of your home to the highest.
    • After five minutes, turn off your faucets in reverse order, from highest to lowest.
  • Hot Water Faucets: To clear hot-water pipes and water heater of untreated water, flush the hot water line for a minimum of 15 minutes for a typical household 40-gallon hot-water tank, 30 minutes for an 80-
gallon hot water tank or larger. Hot water is then safe to use for washing hands, and for handwashing of dishes, pots and pans, etc.
  • Dishwasher: After flushing the hot water pipes and water heater, run your dishwasher on empty one time.
  • Ice machines: Dispose of any ice from before or during the boil order and flush the water feed lines by running the ice maker for 24 hours and disposing of this batch as well. Wipe down the ice bin with a disinfectant.
  • Water dispensers on fridges: Water dispensers from refrigerators should be flushed through at least one quart of water. If unsure of your dispenser’s capacity, refer to manufacturer specifications.
  • Humidifiers: Discard any water used in humidifiers, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), oral, medical, or health care devices, and rinse the device with clean water.
  • Water filters: Replace all water filters.

Food Service Establishments

When a food service establishment is notified that the boil water advisory has been lifted and the drinking water supply is safe, the following actions need to be taken.

  • Flush pipes throughout the facility by running each faucet with cold water for 5 minutes.
  • Flush, clean, and sanitize appliances that use tap water (such as beverage dispensers, spray misters, coffee and tea urns, ice machines, glass washers, dishwashers) according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle.
  • Flush hot water tanks.
  • Run drinking fountains continuously for 5 minutes to flush the system.
  • Replace and sanitize water filter cartridges according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Take proper steps to flush ice machines by following the manufacturer’s instructions, including:
    • Throw out any remaining ice.
    • Flush the water line to the machine inlet.
    • Close the valve on the water line behind the machine.
    • Disconnect the water line from the machine inlet.
    • Open the valve and run 5 gallons of water through the valve.
    • Dispose of the water.
    • Close the valve.

Water Service Disruption and Boil Water Advisory in Castle Pines North Metropolitan District

Castle Pines, CO - We regret to inform our residents that there is a temporary disruption in water service affecting large portions of the Castle Pines North Metropolitan District and we are issuing a Boil Water Advisory until further notice. Last night, during the ongoing Monarch Waterline Rehabilitation Project, a waterline ruptured while connecting the new line to our existing system. This incident has resulted in many residents waking up to find their water service interrupted this morning.

Our team is working diligently to repair the rupture and restore water service as swiftly as possible. We anticipate that water service will be restored within the next few hours and expect the situation to be resolved this afternoon, May 15, 2024.

Due to this disruption, we have issued a Boil Water Advisory for all residents and businesses in the Castle Pines North Metropolitan District. This advisory is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice.

Instructions for Residents:

  • Boil Water: Bring all water to a rolling boil for at least one (1) minute before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes.
  • Bottled Water: Alternatively, you may use bottled water for the above purposes.
  • Avoid Consuming Unboiled Water: Do not consume untreated tap water. This includes avoiding the use of ice from automatic ice makers and water dispensers.
  • Infants and Vulnerable Populations: Extra caution should be taken for infants, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems, as they are particularly susceptible to waterborne illnesses.

Safety Measures:

  • Personal Hygiene: You may use tap water for bathing and showering, but be careful not to swallow any water.
  • Dishwashing: If possible, use disposable plates, cups, and utensils. If washing dishes by hand, use boiled or bottled water. Dishwashers may be used if the water reaches a final rinse temperature of at least 150 degrees Fahrenheit (65 degrees Celsius) or if the dishwater has a sanitizing cycle.
  • Food Preparation: Use boiled or bottled water for preparing food and beverages.

Duration:

This Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until further notice and CPNMD completes the necessary repairs, flushes the system, and conducts satisfactory bacteriological testing. We will notify the public when the advisory is lifted and it is safe to consume tap water again.

Please be aware that once service is restored, there may be significant discoloration in the water. This is a result of the unanticipated outage, and we are taking steps to flush the system in any affected areas.

We understand the inconvenience this disruption may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this. For real-time updates, we encourage residents to sign up for our email notifications at https://www.cpnmd.org/contact-us.

We are committed to resolving this issue promptly and will keep you informed as more information becomes available. The state has been notified of this situation.
